Tourette Awareness Month concludes on June 15, and while awareness efforts never rest, inserting a beacon into the world’s calendar is the right way to give observers something for the attention span.
My personal favorite maneuver for the podcast specifically has been the linkup with the Geeks Rising network, which is doing amazing things to extend Tourette’s Podcast to a broader world of listeners. Awareness, right? The network also placed a banner on its main page celebrating Awareness Month. That was entirely the idea of Bandrew Scott at Geeks Rising, and I’m so thankful for his interest and help. It has brought the podcast to new Touretters and, just as importantly, non-Touretters.
If you’re looking for an easy way to accomplish what needs accomplishing for Awareness Month, check out 5 Ways to Raise Awareness from the Tourette Association of America (TAA).
Some parts of the world celebrate awareness efforts at different times, which is ideal.
Canadian listeners should visit https://tourette.ca/ (and register for the conference coming up in October).
In the UK, it’s Tourettes Action.
Australians have the Tourette Syndrome Association of Australia.
TAA has also compiled an international list of supports, which you should check out if you’re in an area not mentioned above. It’s pretty extensive.
It’s so important that we’re aware of what’s out there, particularly in countries that perhaps don’t have the level of support or popular backing as those above. Thanks for doing what you’re doing, no matter the time of year. It always helps.
